TOURNAMENT OVERVIEW

You will be demonstrating the usefulness of your cycle for daily activities such as shopping and your skills as an urban cyclist.
Bring items such as bungee cords, rope, garbage bags, panniers, drybags, webstrappings, etc that could carry any conceivable load. ( ie eggs, lumber, laundry detergent, potted plants, etc) The more difficult the loads- the higher the point value.
You should also be prepared to show various aspects of practical urban cycling such as: how to keep the rider and cargo dry, daytime visibility, nighttime visibility, tools for repairs,etc.
You should also be prepared to show your knowledge of safe and legal cycling practices in both a written and practical form.

This tournament is meant to be a showcase of the practicality of cycles and the preparedness of the rider for urban settings.We especially encourage the participation of cyclists of all ages, fitness levels and, levels of disability. ( If you have a special disability that may have to be accomodated - please let us know in advance)

THIS IS NOT A RACE.
PREPARATION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN SPEED FOR THIS TOURNAMENT.

FEES: $20  $10 for HPTA members

Overview of Schedule: 9 -10am registration
10am onwards Demonstration/Display of Bikes and Riders
10am-11:00am Static Evaluation of cycle and rider
LUNCH
noon- 4pm Practical Course Evaluations and Practice Runs
Cleanup
6pm SUPPER  at restaurant with HPTA general meeting followed by announcements and prizes.

POINTS OVERVIEW:
Static Evaluation :  25 points ( 25% of points before item tally)
Written Evaluation  25 points ( 25% of points before item tally)
Practical Course Evaluations  50 points ( 50% of points before item tally)
Item tally: Points are added based on marked values of items accumulated on the practical evaluation. There is no limit on point potential. These totals are then divided by 10% and then added to the overall total.

AWARDS:
One overall winner based on highest points
One winner in each category of evaluation ( 3) based on highest points
One winner of ?Spirit Award? based on showing a special appreciation for urban cycling


Demonstration/Display of Bikes and Riders 10am onwards Please have your cycle available in the demonstration area to be able to answer questions from the public, the media and other contestants about your cycle, your gear and your preparedness for urban transportational cycling.
Static Evaluation
10am -11am
25 points ( 25% of points before item tally)
Participants will be called forward individually to demonstrate various criteria for urban cycling ( how to keep the rider and cargo dry, daytime visibility, nighttime visibility, tools for repairs,etc.)

Written Evaluation
10am -11am 25 points ( 25% of points before item tally)
Participants will be sitting as a group ( near the demonstartion area)  to demonstrate various criteria for urban cycling. This will be based on the booklet  ?Cycling Skills?

Lunch (individual payment)
11am - noon
Lunch can be obtained from the HPTA fundraiser BBQ on site, from the Brantford Civic Centre on site, across the street from the Price Chopper grocery store, or from various area restaurants.Or you can bring your own lunch.

Practical Course Evaluations and Practice Runs
noon- 4pm
50 points ( 50% of points before item tally)
Each participant individually completes the course with two laps in ten minutes total.
The first lap is clockwise, and the second lap is a figure 8 with stops at various locations to do errands by picking up and dropping off items. You must stop, signal and avoid course hazards.
Extra points are tallied with the item values. The more difficult the loads- the higher the point value.

Cleanup of Venue
4pm- 5:30pm
The tables, items, bikes and other items will be removed from the Civic Centre. Points are tallied and all people and prizes are moved to the restaurant.

Supper at 6pm at Greenwich Family Restaurant, 200 Greenwich Street (individual payment)
There will be an HPTA general meeting, a silent auction, announcements, certificates and prizes.
